Headaches
Being told you’re too tense and being advised to “just relax” can be especially frustrating when you have a headache or muscle tension. You know you should relax, but how can you, when you feel all knotted up? Sometimes even a massage can be painful in those situations.
I practice a style of acupuncture that gives your body a signal to readjust the tension in specific muscle groups. (You could use the analogy of a pulley and a rope; not until the pulley is adjusted will the rope relax). Once the overall tension in the region is released, specific points, called trigger points, are needled. The trigger points correspond to knots in your muscles. The needles work on the area of tension, going deeper than a massage can.
Tension headaches and TMJ also respond very well to acupuncture. Moreover, many patients have found that herbs are also very helpful for hormonal headaches or migraines.
